Welcome to sports at Lota State School

Active participation in sport is encouraged at Lota State School. Sport benefits the students’ physical well-being and helps develop their social skills through team sports.

Inter-house sport

Students are divided into 2 school houses - Flinders and Oxley.

There are 3 inter-house carnivals each year - swimming, cross country and sports day.

Students participate individually and in teams to win points for themselves and their houses. The students with the highest points in each category from 11 years upwards win age champion medals. All students also compete to win the house cup.

Inter-school sport

Most Friday afternoons in Term 2 students in Years 5 to Years 6 participate in an interschool sporting competitions and travel by bus to other local schools. The emphasis at Lota State School is on participation. As an extra opportunity not offered by most local schools in our area, some students from Year 4 are invited to participate, depending on the resources available.

Lota State School also offers Gala Days for other Interschool Sports Competitions throughout the school year.

Representative Sport

Lota State School is affiliated with the Lytton District for Primary Schools. This means children are eligible for all representative sports whether or not the sport is played at the school. While the school automatically sends teams to swimming and athletics trials they may also nominate students for other sports. Requests from parents or students who are excelling in any sport are welcome and can be made to the Physical Education teacher.
