As a Positive Behaviour for Learning school, Lota State School takes pride in having a positive and proactive approach to supporting students in all areas of their schooling.
Our school community has identified the following core School Positive Behaviour for Learning expectations and values as a foundation for the promotion of high standards of responsible behaviour and attitude.
In 2020, Lota State School developed its Student Code of Conduct in line with Education Queensland policy and the Human Rights Act 2019. This Student Code of Conduct outlines the rights, responsibilities and roles of all members of the Lota State School community, our school-wide expectations and our support processes for all students. The Code of Conduct annual minor updates reflecting changing circumstances, data and staff. A full review is conducted every 4 years and includes, staff, parents and students.
All new students and families are provided access to the Student Code of Conduct upon enrolment and we recommend that parents and carers read through this document with their students to ensure all parties have a clear understanding of the school's expectations for behaviour.
Consideration of Individual Circumstances
Lota State School considers students' individual circumstances, such as their behaviour history, disability, mental health and wellbeing, religious and cultural considerations, home environment and care arrangements when teaching expectations, responding to inappropriate behaviour or applying a disciplinary consequence.
In considering the individual circumstances of each student, Lota State School recognises how students are taught, the support provided and the response students receive may differ. This reflects the principle of equality, where every student is given the support they need to be successful. This also means that not everyone will be treated the same, because treating everyone the same is not fair.
Anti-Bullying Policy
At Lota State School we do not tolerate bullying or harassment of any kind. All members of the school community are committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment. Further information may be found on how bullying is addressed at Lota State School can be found in the Student Code of Conduct.
Celebration Day
At the end of every semester the school hosts a celebration day to recognise the achievement and efforts of all students at Lota State School who have demonstrated the school's expectations.
Active Citizenship Scheme
Students across the school learn the foundations for wellbeing and lifelong learning, which they then demonstrate by following the Schoolwide Expectations Teaching Matrix. The School Values (Happy, Safe and Learning) embed the personal and social capabilities from the Personal and Social Capability Learning Continuum (PSCLC). Using the PSCLC, students develop personal and social capability as they learn to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively.
These then underpin Lota State School's Schoolwide Active Citizenship Scheme where students can earn their silver and gold pins. Students are supported through this process.
