Clubs and societies

Environmental Club

Our Environmental Club is particularly strong, and meets on a weekly basis. The club is involved in a range of activities from school based projects to partnerships with Brisbane City Council which link with our nearby creeks and the Lota foreshore.
We recycle  all paper waste, utilise a worm farm to feed our kitchen garden and collect rainwater in our tanks. The school also has a large bank of solar panels to reduce our carbon footprint.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Students tend to and grow their own vegetables in our purpose built gardens, then cook the produce in our commercial kitchen.

Innovations Club

Lota state Schools’ Innovations Club seeks to explore a range of digital technologies, literacies and media arts in inquisitive and unique ways.
From building and coding robotics, to animated film production, Innovations Club gives students opportunities to collaborate with peers to investigate and innovate for a future they haven’t invented yet!

 Student Council

The student council is comprised of a selection of year 6 students and meets weekly to consider fundraising opportunities and school initiatives.

Last year the promoting of #lotarocks started through social media. This promotion was then picked up by many of our supportive local businesses and individuals; so much so, that we had to create the #lotarocks facebook page as a point of reference for the local community.

When we decided to embark on a project to teach our students the joy of giving we didn't imagine for a moment that such a simple idea would develop into a movement spreading throughout our community and beyond. So far we've had pledges from many friends and family of Lota State School to take our rocks to Scotland, Yorkshire, Singapore, New Zealand, Hawaii, Canada, Victoria, New South Wales and of course our very own neighbourhood parks and playspaces. Our beautiful gifts will certainly take the message of Lota State School being a community of wonder and greatness across the globe.

To follow the progress of our "giving stones" join the #lotarocks page on facebook, post pictures of your rocks as you find and hide them with their location and keep the updates coming as to where they have journeyed.
