Our range of extra-curricular clubs and activities are designed to maintain a focus on an holistic education for all of our students whilst challenging them to reach beyond their current thinking to be the best that they can be.

Our current range of clubs and activities are:

  • Environmental Club
  • School of Rock
  • Student Council
  • Running Club
  • Eco-Marines
  • STEAM Club
  • Drama Club
  • Dance Club
  • Choir
  • Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program
  • Esports Club
  • Fun Fit Fridays

Environmental Club

Our Environmental Club is particularly strong, and meets on a weekly basis. The club is involved in a range of activities from school based projects to partnerships with Brisbane City Council which link with our nearby creeks and the Lota foreshore.

We recycle  all paper waste, utilise a worm farm to feed our kitchen garden and collect rainwater in our tanks. The school also has a large bank of solar panels to reduce our carbon footprint.

School of Rock

Lota State Schools’ School of Rock seeks to allow students to explore their inner rockstar while having a jam with their peers. Our School of Rock coordinator is a talented musician who encourages our students to develop a love for music.

Student Council

The student council is comprised of a selection of year 6 students and meets weekly to consider fundraising opportunities and school initiatives.

Running Club

The Running Club comprises of a selection of students who meet weekly on Wednesday mornings to increase their fitness.

Eco-Marines

We inspire and empower students to become conservation leaders through this award-winning program. Our student ambassadors encourage the school community to identify and tackle challenges impacting our local community in a fun and creative way.

STEAM Club

Lota State Schools’ Innovations Club seeks to explore a range of digital technologies, literacies and media arts in inquisitive and unique ways.

From building and coding robotics, to animated film production, Innovations Club gives students opportunities to collaborate with peers to investigate and innovate for a future they haven’t invented yet! This program is an extension program to our Innovations Club.

Drama Club

Drama Club fosters the talents of those students who are theatrically inclined and gives them an opportunity to perform and develop self- confidence. They build skills in speaking, movement, and use body, voice and face to take on a role or character. Students are encouraged to become actively involved in contributing to script, staging and costume development. Students regularly perform at the end of term performance parades.

Dance Club

The dance club is aimed at promoting fitness, co-ordination, flexibility, concentration, teamwork ,and, of course, fun! We begin with basic jazz steps so  beginners are most welcome.

Each year a group of dedicated students compete at The Redlands Eisteddfod against other primary schools. The Dance Club enjoys performing their routines at school assemblies, fetes and discos.

Choir

The choir is regularly involved in a range of performances and gives our students an opportunity to learn to sing in harmony.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

Students grow and nurture their own vegetables in our purpose-built gardens, then cook the produce in our commercial kitchen. Supported by our P&C, the kitchen garden program ensures that all of our students develop the skills to be self-sufficient and confident in the kitchen environment.

Esports Club

Esports has become a rapidly growing and dynamic field, offering opportunities for teamwork, strategic thinking, and personal growth. Our club aims to provide a platform for students to delve into the exciting world of competitive gaming, learn valuable skills, and forge lasting connections with fellow enthusiasts.

Fun, Fit Fridays

Fun, Fit, Fridays are for students in Years 1 and 2 only and are a chance for students in these year levels to have some movement and fun before school begins. Students do not have to have a change of clothes as they will already be wearing their sports clothes and parents do not have to remain with their child.
