Australian Curriculum

 Lota State School implements the Australian Curriculum in the following learning areas: 

  • English - literature, language and literacy using the processes of reading, writing, viewing and speaking.
  • Mathematics - number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability.

  • Science - biological, physical, chemical and earth and space sciences.

  • HASS - Humanities and Social Sciences (History, Geography, Civics, Business)

  • The Arts - drama, dance, media and visual art, music

  • Health and Physical education

  • Technology – Digital Technology

  • Language other than English (LOTE) - French from Prep to 6. 

Languages Other Than English (LOTE)

 The Language Other Than English (LOTE) at Lota SS is French. It is part of the school program from Prep to Year 6. Year 5 and 6 classes receive 1.5 hours instruction each week whilst Prep - Year 4 receive half an hour a week, on alternate terms.
 The aim of LOTE is to introduce students to the French language and culture. The course is primarily an oral course with an emphasis on the development of language proficiency in speaking and listening. There may be short projects and assignments involving writing and reading.

Religious Instruction


Religious instruction (RI) is offered on the second last Thursday of every term.  Students participate in rotational activities focusing on different aspects of spirituality and culture.  These learning experiences include Christian celebrations, gratitude, mindfulness and culture.   



 Instrumental Music Lessons (Years 4-6) cater for:
  • Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced Music Camps
